One of the primary goals of the Health Section is to promote high quality scientific research and the exchange of technical information among government and university scientists, diagnosticians, national policy makers and the members of the private sector. This is accomplished by organizing the triennial "Symposia on Diseases in Asian Aquaculture," and through co-sponsoring joint meetings and workshops with other organizations. Activities in this area to date include:

The First Symposium on Diseases in Asian Aquaculture
26-29 November, 1990
Anggrek Inn, Kuta Beach, Bali, Indonesia

The Section's first symposium was a great success, bringing together 177 participants from 19 countries. A total of 95 original research and review papers were presented. A highlight of the symposium was a special session on the use of chemotherapeutic agents in Asian aquaculture. The combination of high quality scientific presentations, in-depth reviews of current topics by internationally recognized experts, and the opportunity for regional workers to meet each other, as well as the superb location of the conference venue and the hospitality and vibrant local culture of our Indonesian hosts set the standard for subsequent symposia.

The Second Symposium on Diseases in Asian Aquaculture
25-29 October, 1993
Karon Villa Hotel, Phuket, Thailand
